Day 25 – Downtime
Day 25: Downtime
What does your OC do in their downtime? Do they drink, gamble, play cards? Visit brothels, go to the Chantry, go to plays/operas? Read? Other stuff?
Apart from training which she in fact does for fun, Fian developed quite the taste for knowledge while she was underway. She never had access to a library or money to buy a book in the Alienage, so the book she learned to read with was a cook book and later on a small collection of traditions that belonged to the Hahren. This changes once she is with the Wardens and then on the road. She could never quite believe how many books and scrolls were left somewhere and everything she can get her hands on is something she devours and discusses with others. It was quite a while until Leliana discovered that she never knew there was literature beside technical and educational literature. It was her that introduced her to novels – something Zevran gleefully made several contributions to with some rather… explicit and/or romantic novels which lead to some amusing moments at the campfire.
Apart from that she is quite the seamstress and nearly often had something to mend or sew. It was only when she and Zevran settled down in Antiva that she got a taste of the so-called “cultural life” of a city – so far the only performances she saw were those on the streets from artist troups that used to visit Denerim every few years, an occasion that was always a celebration in the Alienage. She enjoys music very much and has a very lovely singing voice herself.
Aren cooks and later takes up baking when living in Orlais. Preparing food always has a calming effect on her. Other than that she is a bookworm through and through. Especially when it comes to anything new. She absorbs knowledge like a sponge with complete disregard to how useful the knowledge actually might be to her. It has been known to happen that when she and Leliana were invited to rather high class parties in Orlais she would disappear after some small talk, only to walk out two hours later with her nose in a book, obviously having found the library and telling random people useless facts she just learned. The other guests usually found her fairly odd but after a while, unknowing to her, it almost became a sort of special party event. With nobles stacking their library with obscure texts to peak her interest so they could later boast about the Hero of Ferelden finding something interesting in their home. When Leliana noticed the nobility doing this she had her own fun with it, hiding books with quite scandalous facts for Aren to find in someone’s library just to embarrass them.
Aren found out at some point, but she really didn’t care as long as she could read books instead of talking to lords and ladies all evening.
