Day 22 – Home
Day 22: Home
What does ‘home’ mean to your OC? Where have they lived in their life, and who with?
Amara is the living embodiment of the saying “home is where the heart is”. She never considered any of the places she lived as a child as home. For her home has to have something positive, something that makes you want to be there. Growing up she never really had such a place. Evina started to feel like home but that was over befroe she could really make something out of that feeling.
For a while she felt like what she had at the Dalish camp surely must be the closest to a home she would ever find. But after leaving she found that she didn’t feel like she belonged there after all.
She associates really specific little moments with the word home. Sitting on a rood with Sera. Their table at the Skyhold Tavern, the workbench she used in the undercroft and similar singular things. Later when she says she is going home she always means either Sera’s place in Orlais or wherever the Charger’s Camp is right at this moment.
‘Home’ for Lyssa means the smell of honeycomb cake, dried flowers and a fire. It is a feeling more than a place, it is the ability to find beauty even in the smallest of places and bringing colour into it. Her mother was for her the embodiment of ‘home’ and she took the best of what she learned from her to add it to wherever they went. Being part of a clan who continuously travels it was essential for her to be able to make a new place comfortable and inviting within a short span of time and it was applying this ability to Skyhold which made her accept her place within the Inquisition.
Lyssa’s first home was with her three brothers and her parents in Denerim’s alienage, a small and cramped place. After the death of all of her siblings and her father, she leaves Denerim together with her mother and finds a new home with the Dalish, first living with her at a fire, later with her husband Nelos. When they both died as well, she shared a fire for more than a year with a friend and her children, both helping each other out – until Lyssa was sent to the Conclave.
During her time with the Inquisition, she finds that she starts to connect a feeling of being ‘home’ more and more with people instead of rooms even though she starts to absolute love her own room in Skyhold, finding solace and peace there. She is incredibly sad when they have to leave the keep after the Inquisition disbands.
