Not enough time for games – or maybe I have too much?
April was already stuffed with me binge-gaming – more so than usual even. I kinda anticipated that with Mass Effect Andromeda still being fresh. That was also, surprising no one, my most played game that month. I started playing at launch in March and finished the first run about four weeks later. I took my sweet time and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The game has some issues, but overall it was immersive, full of amazing characters, had fun gameplay and an engaging story. I definitely want more, DLCs, Add-Ons, gimme anything really! I immediately started another playthrough that stalled pretty quickly though. I am sadly blessed with a very good memory and a very low tolerance for repetition and starting the game right over again felt a little too repetitive to me, even on hardcore settings and with another skillset. So I am very likely going to play it again some day, just not right now.
I looked into the new update for Star Wars The Old Republic and I was a bit torn. There is great new story bits, and, well, not so great ones. Plus the cut scenes felt kind of disjointed from time to time, a bit like with Ziost back then – as if we were missing some key scenes. None the less I enjoyed it and even played a bit with low level characters again. I started a Powertech but the recent class changes make the low level version decidedly less fun to play so I went back to comfort gaming and a Sith Warrior. But SWTOR is a “once in a while” game at the moment.
Another game that lured me back in with an update last month already was Overwatch. They added a little story mode event, coming with new rewards, new skins/intros/emotes and so on. And it was really well done. A thoroughly enjoyable event and it got me into playing a lot more Overwatch in general again. I finally started with the ranked season four, played quite a bit on another server and overall enjoyed every minute of it. That went seamlessly into the anniversary event that is currently running. The new competitive season is here and I am ready to jump back in and see if I’ve perhaps improved. (I am rather sure of it but, well, SR, MMR and matchmaking are… a source of never ending joy! Joy I tell you!) In general I’ve gotten way deeper into playing OW in the past months. I finally clicked with some of the dps classes and I am slowly working through the characters so I can play at least the basics of most of them. Since I had an accident a couple of weeks ago that left me unable to walk for quite a while I had lots of time to spare…
Inbetween Blizzard reeled me a bit into Diablo 3. Mainly with it being free to play and just sitting there, looking at me. My tiny Demon Huntress is point & clicking he way through the world while I play the “how many voice actors do I recognise?” game. It has been fun so far. (And I was slightly worried when I felt myself getting really excited over that 60 ppl kill streak… Massacre Bonus for XP – what a concept…)
Another new acquisition has been Prey. I got curious about that the minute they announced Sumalee Montano as the female main character. I am only a few hours in so far but it has a lot of great gameplay and a really engaging up until now.
Currently I am very much looking forward to June. SWTOR just published their road map for the rest of the year, including an announcement for a return of the Nightlife Event in two weeks. In less than one week Elder Scrolls Online will be releasing the Morrowind Add On and I’ve been excited about that since the initial announcement. After that the E3 and the EAPlay are happening and I am hoping for at least a little bit of info on my fav franchises. Mainly about a potential Dragon Age 4, the fate of the Mass Effect Universe (and possible DLCs?), whatever the heck Bethesda is doing at the moment, a bit more info on Star Wars Battlefront 2 (especially on the story campaign) and of course any tiny bit of news about the still untitled Amy Hennig Star Wars game. Towards the end of June Funcom will relaunch The Secret World as Secret World Legends in a Free to Play model. So for the near future I am definitely set with games…
