Din’anshiral – Julie Replays Dragon Age Pt. 5
Still kind of unwilling to look for a mystical Urn, Fian decided after Ostagar to go and see for herself if those Dalish actually do exist. And if her friend’s brothers made it to them. (They didn’t. Not to this clan, anyway.)
To her utter surprise, she DID find the Dalish – and at the same time realized that they were way more different from her than she thought. And that she had a pretty strong desire to be as free as they were.
Despite the curse. Which she of course with no hesitation promised to help with. They were her people after all, right?
So off into the forest we go (which I really like, scenerywise), after we
steal everything we can loot some chests, where we piss of some weres, disturb some gravestones, fight some revenants and sleep (awesome side quest), and get SUPERSPOOKED by Sylvans.
Seriously, I nearly jumped out of my chair when that tree suddenly moved. I had totally forgotten about them.
There are several minor quests which I all like but not so many as in other main quests. Which is sad but I kind of get compensated by really astonishingly beautiful scenery. Give me forests and old temples and Julie is a happy player. We help the Old Oak get his acorn back, get some magical branch in return and off we are into the werewolves’ lair.
In between, we change armour and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Dalish armour Fian is now wearing.
I can only imagine Fian running around in that old elven temple, eyes wide open, staring and deciphering, while the rest fights megaspiders and weres.
“Fian, would you please help?!” – “Yeah, sure, in a minute… I think that’s an old altar! Would you look at it?! 😀 ” – “Kind… of… busy…” *fight fight*
Oh, the exploring we do! Beautiful. Freeing spirits and trying (without luck) to help the spirit of an elven boy. We do find his (spirit) mother but because we lack any means of communicating with her, she attacks. More fighting!
Speaking of fighting, while most of the fights were pretty standard and easy, two or three gave me quite a challenge. In one of them the team has to fight a mighty revenant which vanishes from one magical place to another as soon as one comes near. I was dead two or three times in what felt like seconds until I switched all but one to ranged weapons. Then it was a matter of seconds until we had won. Ah, tactics.
It’s a pity one doesn’t learn more about what exactly happened in that temple, because from the bones and spirits and creatures it’s pretty clear it was something horrifying. (Or maybe I overlooked the codex entries.) Lorewise this quest is amazing. One finds a tablet which describes perfectly what will happen in Dragon Age Inquisition at the Temple of Mythal, and one discovers that it looks like Tevinter used to be trading closely with elves – or is Tevinter culture more dominantly formed by elven culture than anyone knows?
Back to the plot. The last playthroughs always ended with peace between Wolves and Dalish but I had a feeling that would not really be an IC-option in this playthrough. And true enough, despite the explanations the Ladyof the Forest gave (which atually made Fian feel closer to the Dalish and more determined), the fight with the weres was unavoidable. And whoa, hard. I actually turned the difficulty down for that fight.
The weres are dead, Fian has help from and connections to the Dalish which makes her giddy and she and Zevran are in love. Now she feels like she can do anything. Maybe even find an Urn that doesn’t exist.
