Whom Gods Destroy – Anna plays Inquisition Part 3
It took me a while to finally get around to write the next entry about actually playing the game. In my defence, I was busy scribbling down around 30k words of fanfiction in the meantime. Which made me neglect actually continuing with the game for a while as well. The general lull I usually fall into after reaching Skyhold happened this time as well. There is so many possibilities of what you can do that I usually react to this with procrastination. In this case I started with some minor quests. Companion quests if they already had them for me. Getting my specialisation quest done and opening up some areas I know I will need. I went to the Forbidden Oasis and just enjoyed the scenery for an evening. It is breathtaking. (It you like pretty landscape shots: I have HD screenshots saved here and will update during my play through)
After that I got the ingredients for the Tempest Specialisation from the Storm Coast, taking the opportunity to clear the map as best as I could except for that small Dragon area at the end. Got the Blades of Hessarian on my side and killed some Darkspawn. Blackwall was happy about that. He doesn’t have much else to be happy about lately so he kinda deserved that. After Amara disbanded the Templars he is not really in a mood to talk to her anymore. Solas’ relationship with her managed to survive taking the negative approval hit but Blackwall seems do be basically done with her. But eh, one person less to visit. Those Skyhold rounds are already pretty time consuming.
Amara got basically steamrolled by Sera’s companion quests and romance. In a matter of two evenings they were a happy, steady couple already. Cassandra and Dorian were also quick with their quests and Vivienne & Solas made me take a trip to the Exalted Plains where I took care of the Freemen and secured an alliance with the Dalish. With those first steps taken care of Amara had to get ready to go to Halamshiral. I know many people prefer to play it the other way around, mainly because Hawke is already there and waiting to talk to you but I found that I much prefer going to Halamshiral first. Mainly because the return from Orlais triggers the whole “who becomes the next Divine” questline. Additionally the issue in Orlais feels more pressuring to me than to look into some disappearances. Of course you know as a player that they are equally important, but it’s player knowledge vs character knowledge here.
So Amara travels to Halamshiral. With her the Iron Bull, Sera and Vivienne. Or what I call “the dream team” in this playthrough. Vivienne has the standard barrier, is skilled in both ice and fire and her specialisation of course which makes her an allround talent that is basically unkillable and can heal the entire group as a Knight Enchanter. Sera is a devastating ranged damage dealer that has high evasion – I can completely ignore her ai and she barely ever gets scratched. Bull has skills from his reaver spec, the two handed skill tree and some tank abilities. It makes him an off-tank at best, not really comparable with Blackwall or Cassandra but with my playstyle I found that I don’t really need a full tank in 99% of the cases anyways. Amara lastly dual wields and combines that with poison, throwing knives, grappling chains and tempest abilities. Making her highly mobile, able to sunder armour in a big radius and being everywhere on the battlefield at the same time. Even in my designed to be especially punishing nightmare + trials setting the fights are over really quickly. I think the battle against the Grand Duchess was over in less than 45 seconds. So the dream team gets to go out quite often like this. 😉
In Orlais Amara sympathised with the Grand Duke from the beginning. After meeting Briala she is completely on board with letting her rule through the Duke and getting rid of Celene. To be honest I can’t really imagine ever playing an elf that lets Celene live. Not happening. So for an entire evening I was running my little group through the palace, finding all the secrets, giving up on the blasted and stupid caprice coins at some point and generally snooping into private things that should stay private. The half naked soldier tied to Celene’s bed is still a highlight of this quest.
The evening ended with a very sweet dancing scene between Amara and Sera. And then probably some mischief after Sera’s suggestion of what to do with the throne. I really wish this had an actual scene for the outcome of that plan.
After all this was said and done everyone got to go home, only to get directly accosted by a chantry sister who wants to take both Cassandra and Leliana with her. Which is definitely NOT happening. Amara doesn’t really give a crap about the chantry. She has half a mind to let it go down in flames just out of spite. Putting Leliana on the sunburst throne seems like the next best thing to her and so she will be firmly advocating for that. This has been an outcome I had already established for my own canon way before Amara existed as a character. It goes back all the way to my Dragon Age Origins run. Aren (my Surana warden) and Leliana are the otp of otps and are definitely going to get a (slightly scandalous) happy ending. Which includes Leliana becoming the next divine, doing good for mages everywhere and Aren living with her in Orlais (after she cured the warden taint), scandalising the nobility with their relationship. (Leliana totally throws the celibacy thing the chantry has out of the window first day she is wearing the fancy hat.) Luckily this fits well with what Amara wants to achieve and so Leliana has her vote, right from the start.
The next step is finishing a few companions quests (Bull’s Chargers and the respective start of the Iron Bull romance – more about that is part of all the fanfic that Julie has listed over here), finally getting that Wyvern Heart for Vivienne and prhaps talking to Varric about this ominous visitor he has brought to Skyhold. thought the first priority is Calpernia’s quest for me. Mainly because I tend to forget about her and Samson’s quest and that would bite me in the ass later on because I really like to solve the issues with her peacefully. So back to Orlais it is and then, hopefully onwards to Crestwood.
