Spreading the word

2. August 2017 4 comments Article Gaming, Recommendation Julie

We’ve had some great feedback to our last blog post and received amazing recommendations which I felt were only right to share with you all. Some I’ve heard of, other I played myself and all sound really great. Before I list the recommendations, I want to add a video by Pop Culture Detective that Rahel sent us which talks about the exact same idea of our post, adding some numbers to my gut feeling:

Your recommendations (from Twitter):

Maybe try Brothers – A tale of two sons? I really loved that game. Or maybe something like Abzu & Rime?

Brothers – A tale of two sons

I already heard about that game and my husband actually once played the demo. Will definitely look into it.

Rime and Abzu both look like exploration games with a really cute look. Not sure if it’s up my alley but they do look lovely.

If you are looking for adventures instead, Life is Strange is one of the most amazing games of all times.

Life is Strange

I did play Life is Strange and liked the mechanics and ideas behind the game very much. But I didn’t quite understand the hype around the game. Personally, I never warmed to the protagonist but I know that a lot of the emotional themes resonate very much with people. So, if you haven’t played it yet – give it a try. The first of five episodes is free to play.

Kadomi later also recommended Pyre but from the trailer it more or less looks similarily combat-focussed as other RPGs.

She also wrote:

My recommendation would be Tides of Numenera. It’s an old-school RPG à la Baldur’s Gate that you can complete with no combat whatsoever.

Tides of Numenera

Looks definitely interesting, even though it comes with a warning for violence and gore 😉 But the theme seems promising!

I have not finished yet, but the last game I started and liked very much so far was Broken Age: https://t.co/CNmXHJ2RDC

Broken Age

The trailer does look really awesome and I like the artwork a lot. And look at the voice actors! Elijah Wood, Jennifer Hale, Masasa Moyo, Jack Black, Wil Wheaton, Pendleton Ward.

I really recommend games by Deadelic. My favourite one is Night of the Rabbit.

The Night of the Rabbit (until 7th August 2017 in the sale for 4,99€)

It looks like Alice in Wonderland meets fables and gods? Can’t do much wrong for 5€ 😉

In the comments to the last article, Helen recommended several games, among them Unrest. The graphics aren’t much and it looks very basic but does focus on roleplaying. Undertale reminds me of Monkey Island?

To the Moon does look really lovely and the story premise sounds wonderful.

In the comments as well, Wüstenratte recommended Submerged which looks really beautiful and relaxing.

Something I remembered when looking at the recommendations which was amazing (if you aren’t deterred by pixel graphics and love intense puzzles): Fez. That was reeeeally awesome.

I hope this gives you some ideas as well – and if you have more recommendations, please tell us!

Found you on twitter and I’m glad I did. I hope to try and keep up-to-date with your words now.

Thank you! 😀 And welcome to our humble blog!

Some great recommendations. Undertale has a lot of combat though, and quite hard battles.

Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons is amazing and made me cry. To the Moon is also combat-free and quite lovely, though the Adventure Toolkit look put me a bit off. The story is intense though!

Oh, I thought you can play Undertale completely peacefully. Sorry for the misinformation.
