Let’s shoot some pixels!

27. May 2018 0 comments Article Dragon Age, Gaming, Overwatch Julie

It’s become a bit quiet here and for that, we apologize. It’s not that we’re no longer interested in gaming (HAHAHAHAHAHA) or that we’re currently not actively busy with the things we’re interested in – on the contrary. We have already sometimes linked you to the stories we have been writing for our OCs  and at the moment, we’re updating the stories of our Dragon Age 2 characters. Ever since our Letters of Thedas project we’ve played with the thoughts of how the story would enfold if both of our OCs (of each game) were present at the same time and it has enriched our headcanon immeasurably. For a while we had been writing especially the story of our Hawkes – Cassia and Adriene – as twins and by now we have enlarged our AU (Alternate Universe) to encompass both DAO and DAI. The stories are currently not ready to read but I think we will publish them on AO3 some time in the future.

Just to give you an estimate: what was originally around 50k words altogether (and we’re comparing just the part that’s taking place during DA2) is now 155k and growing. And that does not yet show you how much we have rewritten, streamlined, checked for logic etc. It also does not include the ca. 100k words we’ve additionally written for the time when the Hawkes are in DAI. We’ve rewritten nearly every one of the 23 existing chapters and added another 26 chapters and still have several others in the line – still not including what we’ve written for post DA2. So you see, we are seriously busy 😉

Apart from that, we have been working on making this blog more secure – and added that AMAZING new logo made by Leander Taubner. For those not in the EU: a new data protection law has been passed which has come into effect last Friday. You might have noticed the new Data Privacy Statement and Imprint menu button (Datenschutzerklärung und Impressum) which has been updated. For those not able to read German: rest assured that we’re doing our best to make sure that none of your data is stored or transferred to Third Parties. And of course this site is still useable without giving us your mail address or name or sth.

What we’re currently doing if we’re not writing is SHOOTING PIXELS… ergo playing Overwatch. (After a short Fortnite interlude which could not keep my attention for longer than a single session.) At the moment, the Overwatch anniversary event is happening – including a daily changing roster of all the past events. We LOVED the Retribution event in April and have been lucky to find a great team with which we’re playing often at the moment. If you want to play with us sometime, come and tell us either here or via Twitter (@gamingnerdgirls) and we’re gonna find a time to meet up online 😀 Yesterday we had fun with Uprising, tonight Retribution is back \o/

Personally, I wouldn’t mind at all to have access to a permanent PvE part in the Arcade. Especially if you’re in a team it’s just so much fun – and there’s no problem with toxicity or similar things at all. Honestly, if there were such a mode, I’d probably not even be tempted to go into Competitive play… (currently I’m trying to motivate myself to play my last four placements for this season).

Oh, and have you caught up to the commotion around the new Battlefield? In short: it features a woman on the cover and of course there was backlash about how “Battlefield dies”, about the “SJW agenda killing games”, about how “feminism RUINS everything” and most hilarious how the whiny white dude gamers are fuming about “historial accuracy” to justify their misogyny and bigotry. Thankfully, the developers aren’t backing down AT ALL. Nice article that sums everything up can be found here. It all is nearly enough for me to buy the game on purpose, even though I’m not into Battlefield at all.

TL;DR: we’re still here. We’re doing tons of stuff. And we haven’t forgotten about this blog. 😉
